The OMERS Submission is in – Please Read

As you know, the Ford government has ordered a full review of the OMERS plan. And we know that when Conservatives start “reviewing” public sector pensions, it’s usually bad news for workers like us.

We have sent in our 56-page submission supported by over 16,000 members exactly like you! This sends the Ford government a strong message: it’s our money and we deserve to have a say in how it is managed.

Here is a copy of the full submission. Each part of the table of contents is linked to make it easier to go to that part of the submission. We’ve highlighted our demands below:

  • an end to the bogus “confidentiality” requirements that keep plan sponsors like CUPE in the dark about OMERS operations,
  • recognition that “joint sponsorship” means that CUPE members must have a say in OMERS decision and direction,
  • real-world consequences for OMERS brass when they don’t meet the plan’s investment targets,
  • and an end to obscene compensation for OMERS executives: OMERS bosses make top pay but produce the worst growth of all public sector pension plans!

We know that if we let the Ford government get away with small changes now, they won’t stop until our money is in the pockets of their friends. So far, we’ve demonstrated strength with over 16,000 signatures but this fight isn’t over.

If you have coworkers or members in the program who haven’t yet signed, tell them what is at stake and to sign today:
👉 cupe.on.ca/saveouromers

It may not seem like much, but your name — along with tens of thousands of others — could help protect your pension for decades to come.

When the Ford government shows us what they’re going to do here, we’ll be ready.

In solidarity,
The OMERS Submission Committee
