OLRB Complaint

Good afternoon;

As you may know, the unions that represent Ontario teachers filed a complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board. They argue that the lack of provincial standards for health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic is a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

CUPE has filed to intervene in the proceedings in order to have a greater understanding of the issues that are being raised. As of this morning we have been granted standing. We will be keeping locals apprised of details as we are able.

We continue to advocate for members to contact MPPs and school board trustees to demand that the right investments be made in a safe reopening of schools.

Political action has worked: it has forced the Ministry of Education to put in additional resources, and can continue to work to get the investments we need.
